We all deal with stressful or painful situations in our lives. Sometimes they are brief, like a job loss, a bad day or a fight with a loved one. And other times they may last a long time, like an illness or grieving a loved one. It is in these situations that we learn how to cope so that we can continue our life as normally as possible. Sometimes we choose unhealthy behaviors (drugs, alcohol, self-injury) to help us cope, while other times we realize the coping strategies that make us truly happy (gardening, singing, dancing, reading, etc.). This page contains information to help you learn some new, healthy coping skills as well as how to build the skills that work best for you.

Taking Care of You (TCY): a research-based 4-week program (offered here in Jackson County) that offers practical strategies and experiences to help people deal with the stress in their lives. Managing life’s challenges in healthy ways allows them to take better care of themselves and their overall health. Each week they will explore topics through small group discussion, self-reflection and activities. They will consider ways to:
- Become more aware of the mind-body connection and how to use this awareness for better health
- Develop habits that can lead to a healthier person: body * mind * spirit
- Respond versus react to the stress in life
- Discover opportunities in life’s challenges
- Find ways to bring more joy into life
- Simplify life
- Live more in the moment
